600 m after leaving the town in the direction of Mezdra, there is a turn-off from the main road to the villages of Pavolche and Chelopek, where the road crosses and the proposed route turns up an alley. Above the road, the alley continues along the western part of the pine forest. After 150 m uphill, it turns at a right angle to the east and runs along the slope. You will reach one of the stones marking the route taken by Botev’s detachment and make a sharp turn, almost in the opposite direction. You climb a steep path before reaching the small meadow of Taushanitsa. From there, the path is difficult and passes through the large meadow of Kurdovitsa. At the end of the meadow, there is a beautiful view to the north and east. You can see the villages of Pavolche, Chelopek, Ruska Bela, Krapets, Varbeshnitsa, part of Kremene, Kosmatitsa Peak, Strupeshka Mound, and the Teteven Balkan. In bad weather, the two small caves can be used as shelter. They are located 20 m from the path in the rocks, along the ridge to the northeast. Then, a steep path leads to the Leskov Dol valley. On the slope in the meadow, you can pick primroses, hawthorn flowers, St. John’s wort, wild pears, and sour cherries.
Further on, the route follows the slope in a southeasterly direction, about 200 m from the rock of Vola Peak, and reaches Tsareva Livada. From here, you can see the historical sites associated with the feat of Botev’s detachment – the three peaks – Okolchitsa with the monument, Kupenya, and Kamarata. After 100 m from the Selishte area, the route leads to the place where Hristo Botev fell, and from there through the Yolkova valley to Okolchitsa.
The entire route from the Vratsa-Mezdra highway junction to Izba takes two hours and does require hiking experience.
