The start of the route to Ledenika Cave is right next to the Mountaineer’s House, on the right side after the Vratsata Pass. It takes about 3 hours to complete. The start of the route passes through a pine forest and after 30 minutes reaches the Kariera campsite. This is followed by a steep climb, and after 40 minutes, the trail will take you to the Mechoto Kladenche (Bear’s Water) spring with a rest area. This is followed by the steepest climb to the Garvanets rock crown, from where you can enjoy fabulous views of the Vratsata Pass and the majestic rocks. This is followed by a pleasant and easy half-hour walk to the Ledenika Cave. Along the route, information boards will introduce you to the various cave formations, the developed caves in Bulgaria, the most interesting caves in the world, as well as the threats they face. The end of the route is at the Ledenika Cave, located at an altitude of 830 m.

The name Ledenika comes from the ice stalagmites, stalactites, and stalactones that form in it during the winter near the entrance, which is located in the lowest part of the Ledenishki Pass at an altitude of 830 meters. The temperature ranges from 7°C to 15°C in the vestibule and up to 8°C inside. The air humidity is 92%. There are numerous galleries and interesting karst formations, it is about 320 m long and has 10 halls. The first hall is the Vestibule (the lowest part of the cave), in which a huge ice column with a diameter of about 21 meters rises. This is followed by a few meters through which one must move in a low crouch – the Plaznata Passage. Through it, one reaches the Small Hall, which is almost circular in shape. After another narrow passage, through the Komata cave corridor, one reaches the Large (Concert) Hall, which is rich in formations. Some of them have been given different names because of their interesting shapes – the Crocodile, the Giant’s Head, the Falcon, Santa Claus, Baba Yaga’s House, and many others, and visitors can let their imagination run wild and try to find them. Below the Concert Hall is another cave – the Refrigerator. Turning right from the Concert Hall, you reach a small sinkhole lake with a depth of 0.50 m, which according to legend has magical water that grants the wish of anyone who dips their hand in it. From the Great Hall, iron bridges lead across the Small Abyss and the Great Abyss. Through the Curtains Corridor, you reach the so-called White Hall. Here you can see the formations called Father-in-law’s Tongue, the Giant’s Wife, the Elephant, and the Bathing Maiden. The highest point of the cave is called Seventh Heaven. The cave is most attractive to visit in winter and spring. According to experts, it has “divine” acoustics and concerts accompanied by a light show are held there.

The Ledenika Amusement Park is located right next to the cave and includes a visitor center with exhibitions and a 5D cinema, a rope garden, a climbing wall, an amphitheater, and a themed fairy tale park. The visitor center offers walks along eco-trails, sports games and competitions for all ages, and artistic events related to the natural features of Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park.
